Yamdrok Yumtso Lake is a low salt lake formed by the snow melted water from the snow top mountains nearby. This lake is considered as one of the three holy lakes in Tibet. The other two lakes are Namtso Lake and Manasarovar Lake.

Yamdrok-Tso Lake is 130km long and 70km wide with a total perimeter of 250km and the surface area of 638 square km and an average depth of 20-40 meters which makes it the largest lake at the north foot of the Himalayas. This lake is located in the Shannan Region of Tibet on the way between Lhasa and Gyantse. Yamdrok is the perfect option for tourists who want to enjoy the magnificent beauty of Tibet in limited time as this lake is just two hours (170 km) from Lhasa. This means within a day you can visit this lake and return.

Lhasa to Yamdrok:

If you start your trip from Lhasa to visit Yamdrok Lake, you have to drive over Kampala Pass (5000m) where you have a bird’s eye glimpse of this amazing lake. The lake lies few hundred meters below the road.
