Jokhang temple- Situated in the Barkhor Square, Jokhang temple is a pious temple for the Tibetans. While visiting Lhasa, include this temple in your list. Constructed by King Songtsan Gampo in the seventh century, the architecture of the temple, which fuses Chinese Tang Dynasty design with Nepalese and Indian vihara design is something that will amaze you.

Yamdrok Lake- This lake is 70 km away from Lhasa. In Tibetan language, Yamdrok means “jade lake”, which is Tibet’s one of the 3 sacred lakes. The speciality of this lake is that you get to experience a unique scenery combining blue sky, snowy mountains, lakes, grasslands, wild plants and animals and more. Here, you can also visit Samding Monastery located on the southwest part of the lake.

Ganden Monastery- Built in Wangbori mountains, this monastery gives you an outstanding opportunity to have an insight into Gelugpa culture and revel in the excellent landscape of Lhasa valley and alpine mountains. While trekking from Ganden to Samye, the spectacular sights of the countryside will make your journey memorable. You can also take part in the Ganden Thangka Unveiling Festival and Ganden Ngachen Chenmo Festival.

Norbulingka- Means “Jeweled Park”, Norbulingka is the palace where the Dalai Lamas come from the Potala Palace during summer months. It has three hundred and seventy-four rooms with an area of eighty-nine acres. If you want to experience a historical place with scenic beauty, do make a tour of Norbulingka. This is where the Shoton Festival is celebrated.

Barkhor Street- The busiest market in Lhasa, the place has preserved the appearance of the old Lhasa city. When you are roaming in the street, you will be captivated by the Tibetan clothes and handicrafts from India, Bhutan and Nepal. Barkhor Street displays the vibrant life of the people and is an ideal blend of historical and pilgrim sites, restaurants and marketplace.
