Shigatse

One of the main cities in Tibet, Shigatse is a must-visit and is the second-most busiest tourist place after Lhasa. People like to visit this place more because of its historical touch; it is situated within the culturally rich Tsang province of Tibet. Considered as the hotspot for road network between Nepal, Lhasa and western Tibet, Shigatse has some truly spectacular sights to behold, including monasteries and base camps.

Transports of Shigatse

The Lhasa-Shigatse Railway makes a way between Lhasa and Shigatse Railway Station and furthermore connects it to Qinghai via Qinghai-Tibet Railway. You can reach your destination in three hours. Shigatse Peace Airport is Tibet’s fifth commercial airport and is situated at a distance of forty-three kilometers from Samzhubze district. The airport is at a height of almost three thousand meters and provides a great view to the passengers. If you want to go by road, China National Highway 219 and China National Highway 318 are two ways that go in and out of this place.

Attractions in Shigatse

  1. Rongbuk Monastery – You have to visit Tibet if you want to set in this highest monastery of the world. It was built in the early phase of the twentieth century under the Nyingmapa Sect.
  2. Rongbuk Glacier – Travel just three hundred meters from Rongbuk Monastery and enjoy the marvel named Rongbuk Glacier! Situated at almost five thousand meters above the sea level, your breath will be blown away at the sight of the shining blue ice!
  3. Tashilhunpo Monastery – The largest monastery of Rear Tibet’s Gelug Sect, your journey to Tibet will be incomplete without coming here. This is the main place where generations of Panchen Lama do their political and religious activities. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity to visualize the workings of the lamas.
  4. Everest Base Camp – Would your trip even be complete if you do not come to Mt Everest? Now it is not everybody’s feat to go trekking on this grand mountain, but you can surely visit the base camp that is decorated with prayer flags. Take photos at the base camp with snow all around!
