Types of Chinese visa (L)

Are you interested in entering the spiritual domain of Tibet from mainland China? If that is your goal, getting an L type Chinese visa issued is the most important step. Anyone who visits Tibet from China has to have a valid tourist visa. Regardless of whether you are interested in sightseeing or want to visit friends or acquaintances, obtaining this visa is a must. Without a Chinese L visa, even a Tibet travel permit cannot be issued to travelers.

The three main types of Chinese visa (L) are –

  • Single entry L visa – This is the first type of Chinese L visa, ideal for travelers who are visiting Tibet for a short time. The general validity of a single entry L visa is a maximum of 30 days. It is suitable for you if you are opting for a Tibet tour that lasts 20 days to nearly a month. If you are a US citizen, a single entry L Visa has a validity of 3 to 6 months for you. Keep in mind that regardless of your nationality, a single entry L visa entails that you have to enter the country within 90 days of the document being issued.
  • Double entry L visa – A double entry visa is ideal for those visiting China twice within a set period of time. If you plan on entering the country, leave and come back for a second time, this is the ideal option for you. It is important to keep in mind that you have to enter the country twice within the validity period of the visa. A double entry L visa requires you to visit the first time within at least 180 days of the document being issued.
  • Multiple entry L visa – A multiple entry visa is suitable for travelers who intend on entering and exiting China several times during a given time period. Multiple entry visas can be availed for 6 months, one year or even longer.
