Jokhang Temple – Ramoche Temple – Barkhor Square

Visit the Jokhang Temple, the holiest one in Tibet, right in the morning to get the best view. After discovering the interiors of the Buddha Sakyamuni’s house, go to Barkhor Square which is a surrounding market. True to its name, the market will give you a chance to interact with many different people. Ramoche Temple is considered as the sister temple to Jokhang and was constructed to house Jowo Ramoche’s statue.

Potala Palace – Norbulingka Summer Palaces

The Potala Palace is almost like Tibet’s landmark which stands over the city. The former abode of the Dalai Lamas, the palace also has incredible historic value with its birth around seventh century A.D. The Norbulingka summer palaces used to be the resting places for the lamas and is a great inclusion in Lhasa surroundings. It was built by seven lamas.

Drepung Monastery – Sera Monastery

Jamyang Choji, a charismatic monk, founded the Drepung Monastery in 1416. It was so well-built that almost two thousand monks flocked here in just a year. This monastery was the headquarters for all the political and religious decision making for the lamas. The Sera Monastery is just two kilometers away from Lhasa and is one of the famous three historic Gelugpa monasteries. In fact, many say that it has a direct connection to the revered Master Lama Tsongkhapa.
