How long does it take to apply for a permit?

Generally, the process to apply for Tibet Traveler Permit takes about ten to fifteen days. If you want to visit Lhasa and Mt. Everest Base Camp, the permit would take ten days. But if you extend to west and Mt. Kailash region, the permit would take fifteen days.

How to get the permit?

To get a Tibet Travel Permit, it is essential that you make arrangements via a travel agency. Remember that it is impossible for a traveler to board train or flights with the permit. The permit specifies the places you can travel which cannot be altered once you land there.

How to apply for Chinese Visa?

It is advised that before the trip you obtain Chinese Visa from the Chinese Consulate from your homeland. It is also strongly suggested not to mention your Tibet vacation on the visa application form. Your visa might get canceled as Tibet is a politically sensitive region.

Why do I need Military Permit, Alien’s Travel Permit and PSB Permit?

PSB and Military Permits are required for the tours in border areas or sensitive region. These tours include Tibet-Kashigar Overland Tour, Mt. Kailash and Sichuan-Tibet Overland Tour. Alien’s Travel Permits are required if you are touring to Mt. Everest Base Camp, Nyinchi and Samye Monastery.

What documents required to get TTP?

Copies of visas and passports are required to submit. In case, your Chinese Visa does not contain L category, extra documentation is required which may consist of your residence permit, work permit and student certificate.

What documents needed to enter Tibet from Nepal?

If you are thinking to enter Tibet from Nepal, obtain Tibet Group Visa from Kathmandu’s Chinese Embassy. The Tibet Visa Group Visa contains your name, gender, date of birth, nationality, occupation and passport number. The visa is valid till the duration of the trip, but you may extend it for a few days, only if you stay in Lhasa. You will have two copies of visa, one for immigration and the other for exit.
