Lhasa Surroundings

Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet, is a perfect getaway for many Chinese and Nepalese tourists. Crowds begin to fill in the summer and autumn months, making Lhasa the favourite destination among all. The city lies in the Lhasa valley and is surrounded by high mountains on both sides. The biggest attraction of Lhasa is the Potala Palace, situated on the Red hill Marpo Ri. Apart from this, the second place of interest is Jokhang, an old town located just 2 km away from the Potala Palace. Other significant tourists spots include Sera Monastery and Norbulingka, the home of Dalai Lama.

How to explore Lhasa?

Upon reaching the location, do not waste time in your hotel. Set out to stroll around the Lhasa surroundings and visit the holiest location, i.e the Jokhang Monastery. Walk through the complex and get mesmerised with its architecture. Next, head towards Potala Palace, and later, to Norbulingka. After visiting the Sera Monastery, you can take a good hike to nearby places.
Eagerly waiting for something different? Visit the Lalu wetland nature reserve. It is quite hard to believe that a wetland exists on the Northwestern side of Lhasa. Get the sight of some rare Tibetan birds and plenty of migratory water birds such as redshanks, black-necked cranes and white storks.

In addition, you can also try out a short trek where you can revel in the stunning landscapes. Ganden trek and Nyenchen Tanglha to Lake-Namtso trek are the shortest treks, giving you thrilling experiences throughout the way. Camping at night and sleeping under a starry night is something worth a try.

Lhasa has so much to offer to its tourists. Did you know hot springs exist in Tibet? Yampachen Hot spring and Dezhong Hot spring are some worth mentioning. The visitors take a dip in the springs to heal rheumatic and joint pains. It is believed that the minerals have healing powers that miraculously work on diseases.

Shopping in the local Tibetan market is also a delight. Barkhor Street is famous for its varied collections. From a wide array of jewelry to Tibetan dresses and silk scarves, the market has a lot to offer.
