Tingri is a small town located in the southern part of Tibet. With a very little population of about only five hundred people, this is the place where people come before going to take the long route towards Cho Oyu or Mt Everest. Tingri Shelkar is used as a base camp for mountaineers and is at a height of four thousand meters above the sea level. Hence, it is hardly visited for tourist purposes other than because of its closeness to the grand mountains. Ways to Get to Tingri
Take the G318 National Road, or the Sino-Nepal Friendship Highway, from Lhasa to reach Tingri. It is also considered as the Gateway to Everest, and all vehicles need to come to this point before heading for the Everest Base Camp. Tingri is the last proper town that you find before heading off for Everest, and so most of the tourists buy their necessary amenities from here. You can also come to Tingri through EBC, which is at a distance of seventy-two kilometers. If you are coming from Kathmandu, it will take you two days to reach here, and you can stop for the night at Gyirong Town.
Right Time to Visit Tingri
Since most people come to Tingri while going for the Mt Everest, the best season will coincide with the right time to climb Everest. With the mountain at close proximity, the altitude and the climate of this place get affected, hence you need to take high protection measures here as well. Autumn and spring are the best time to ascend Everest because of which Tingri gets flocked by tourists the most during this time. From April to June to September to October, the sky remains clear and there remains no forecast of rainfall. The paths to Tingri gets closed during the winter months due to harsh snowfall and blizzards.
