Places that you should visit in Lhasa

Namtso Lake- One of the three sacred lakes in Tibet, the Namtso Lake is the largest lake in Tibet and also the second largest saline waterbody in China. Situated at a height of 4718 m above the sea level on the Nyainqentanglha Range, it is sprawled across a large area and is hugely worshipped by Tibetans. While some consider this lake as the birthplace of Bonism, some others think that the high altitude places it right below heaven. Namtso Lake attracts a lot of tourists and pilgrims, who flock there for the Kora pilgrimage every year. The exquisite skyline during sunrise and sunset on Tashi Byland will take your breath away.

Yamdrok-Tso Lake- Located in Lhasa’s southern part, this lake is also referred to as the “Turquoise Lake” due to its beautiful color. Regarded as a pious lake, it is surrounded by mountains that are covered with snow. In addition, you can also enjoy the sight of Mt Nyenchen Khangsar along with the landscape and lake. This tour is ideal if you want to click photos and watch birds.

Ganden Monastery- This is the largest Gelug sect monasteries, established in the year 1409 by Tsongkhapa Lozang, a great Indian monk. Situated in the northeastern section of Lhasa, the Monastery has an elevation of three thousand and eight-hundred meters above sea level. Garden Monastery houses more than 24 Chapels with the statues of Buddha. In the large chapel, monks seat and chant together. To have an in-depth experience of Buddhist culture, visit this place. Drak Yerpa Monastery- Also called as Bra Yer-pa, Treyerpa, Dgyerpa and Yerpa, Drak Yerpa is just eighteen kilometers away from the eastern side of Lhasa. By driving through the Najin Road, you reach the monastery. It takes almost two hours to sightsee the place. Halt there for a minute so that you can capture good pictures of Mt Najin and the prayer flags. Besides visiting Drak Yerpa, you can also enjoy hiking to Holy Cave or arrange a lunch picnic.

Apart from the places mentioned above, Tibet also holds other major attraction spots which you can cover during the day tour. Sera Monastery, Tibetan Museum, Potala Palace, Drepung Monastery, Namtso Lake, Norbulingka Palace, Jokhang Temple and others are a few notable destinations.
