What should I carry during my trip?
As Tibet is located in a high altitude region, its atmosphere lets solar radiation to enter the Earth. Therefore, you will get sunburnt easily. Carry a sunscreen lotion with a high SPF, a wide hat and a quality pair of sunglasses to protect you from the heat. Keep a good moisturizer in your bag because the dry air will crack open your lips and areas surrounding the nostrils.
What are the choices of food I can have?
In urban locations such as Gyirong, Lhasa, Nyintri, Shigatse and Tsedang, you can find restaurants offering Indian, Tibetan, western, Chinese, Nepalese and Chinese dishes. In remote locations, you can find Chinese restaurants and noodle places.
What is the average cost per meal?
In cities, the price of meals per individual would range from 10$ to 15$ USD. But the roadside eateries will cost less from 5$ to 10$ USD. However, the region near Kailash is expensive than any city or town. A meal would cost you around 20$ USD. The price may vary depending on the time of your visit.
How are the hotels?
The hotels and their services have gradually improved. Some of the hotels are adopting modern comforts to give a luxurious holiday to travelers. Hotels like Shangri-La and Intercontinental Lhasa Paradise will let you enjoy the ultimate comfort. Which is the gateway city to Tibet?
Mainland China is the best place through which you can enter Tibet. If you are looking forward to traveling Tibet by train, Xining is ideal for you. Train from Xining takes a day and lets you enjoy the scenic beauty of the plateau and the rocky mountains.
Which is the peak travel season?
May to September is the busiest travel season. Though rain starts from July and continues till August, Tibet does not experience heavy shower. Despite the shower, August holds different festivals which you should not miss.
