Tsedang

The fourth-largest city in Tibet, Tsedang is situated in the Yarlung Valley, and you need to travel one hundred and eighty-three kilometers south-east of Lhasa to come here. Being the capital of Shannan City, this place has control of the stately affairs. Tsedang used to be the seat of many great emperors of Tibet and hence used to be the house of many houses and marketplaces. With almost fifty thousand population and an altitude of three thousand meters, Tsedang cannot be missed out on your trip to Tibet.

From breathtaking holy lakes to ravishing snow-capped mountains, Tsedang has a number of attractions for you to visit.

  1. Samding Monastery – Samding is the only monastery that has both nuns and monks living there. It was run by an abbess, the only female incarnation in Tibet. The location of the Samding Monastery is at such a serene place that one trip here will fill your mind and body with tranquility.
  2. Tombs of Tibetan Kings – An interesting change from other tourist attractions, you will love this place if you have an interest in history and culture. Woven with stories from yesteryears, you will see from afar that this place is scattered with tombs of many Tibetan kings. Each tomb comes with a story of its own, and the locals will regale you with the tales of the kings.
  3. Yarlung Tsangpo Valley – Ever confused a valley with a desert? You will here! The Yarlung Tsangpo Valley has stretches and stretches of white sand which you can cross by a jeep. The thin braids of water break the monotony of the sand, and you get to see many interesting shapes of sand dunes. Enjoy the creativity of nature at its best at the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley!
  4. Lhamo La-tso – Magic speaks around the environment of this lake where many pilgrims come with the wish to see their future! It is said that if you fast and do not talk for three days, you get to see your future in the crystal water of this skull-shaped lake.
  5. Sechen Lhatso – Tibet is quite famous for its lakes or lhatso. Since Tibet has a vast territory, the variation in the terrain conditions makes way for different kinds of lakes that are spread all over. The Sechen Lhatso is one such great example and is quite a famous tourist destination for anyone who comes to Tibet. With crystal clear and dark blue water, it is indeed a feast for the eyes of the travellers, who love to stand by its side for hours while drinking in the beauty of nature.
  6. Zimchi hot spring – You will find hot springs all over in the Qiga Scenic Zone, and all of these bubble with medicinal properties. The Zimchi Hotspring gets a number of tourists, who come here to take a bath, in the spring and summer time. Many ailing people believe that the hot springs have properties to reduce their illness, and hence, flock to this place to experience its healthcare role.
